We left Mesa Verde at dawn and it is about 10 AM as we arrive in the Needles at the end of a wild and beautiful road. No site problem in the camp and we can choose a fantastic location.
Once installed, we leave our big RV on the campsite and we head out on our bicycles to explore the park. The place is wonderful and isolation preserves the tourist hordes. After a walk to Pot Hole Point, we ride on Elephant Hill road to the starting point of the 4x4 track. It is very hot and we will end completely thirsty , but what a ride! The red and tormented rocks of the Needles offer us a succession of fascinating landscapes...
We had planned a hike to Druid Arch, but the RV is not allowed on Elephant Hill road, and we do not want to ride bikes again (some climbs anyway ...). So we start our hike from the campsite at the end of the loop B, which takes us away a lot of Druid Arch.
So, we will just do a loop in Chesler Park, a hike of fourteen miles that remains perhaps the finest of those of our journey. Perhaps the finest, but definitely the hottest and most exhausting!
We took a gallon of water each. It will be just enough for the day!!
We left at dawn to enjoy the cool morning, and we return to camp late afternoon, exhausted, but eyes still full of wonderful landscapes of The Needles.
