Mammoth Hot Springs, Yellowstone

July the 6th, the snow!

We heard the rain falling on the tent all night. When we get up in the morning, dawn is freezing. A thin layer of snow covers the camping table. Fortunately, the sun finally rises up and warms us a little.
We leave in the direction of Mammoth, north of the park, where we spotted some nice hikes. Just on the road, we are stopped, with other vehicles, by a team of rangers: the road is under snow! A little later and a few miles away, we arrive at Dunraven Pass in a winter landscape: snow-covered trees and patches of clouds clung to the mountain, the show is magical.

Les terrasses de Mammoth Hot Springs

Arriving at Mammoth, our decision is made. Though the weather may seem to be more nice for the moment, weather forecasts on the Yellowstone are catastrophic for the next day (rain and cold). So we will leave to the south today. We walk among the spectacular volcanic formations at Mammoth Hot Springs and then back on the road to the south and back to Canyon Village, bend the tent and cancel our last camping reservations.

Grand Teton et Jackson Hole

No regrets: when we leave Yellowstone National Park and enter the Grand Teton, the sky cleared completely and the temperature is summer. Behind Lake Jackson, Grand Teton chain offers a majestic sight. No difficulty finding a motel in Jackson Hole. It's a pretty, friendly and very touristic Far West town... with quite expensive accomodation.
